Originally from Ha Tay province neighbouring Hanoi,
Le Quoc Viet has spent most of his life living and
working in a remote Pagoda in Thanh Hoa. In this environment
he perfected the ancient techniques of woodcut printing and
Chinese calligraphy. Although he is one of the youngest
artists contributing to The Ten Courts of the Kings of Hell
exhibition, his beautifully crafted and finely detailed
woodcuts are firmly grounded in tradition. Like Nguyen
Manh Duc he is not easily drawn to the newly installed neon
lights of modern life, although his outlook is accepting and
embraces change. His accomplishment has been internationally
recognised and his works can be found in major public
collections like the British Museum in London. He has also
exhibited and travelled worldwide. However with his teeth
lacquered black, a statement of intent, he assumes a curious
figure walking down the Avenues of Manhattan Island, New York
City where in recent years he has exhibited regularly.
