When they arrived upon the precipice,
there were shrieks and outcries and laments;
they cursed the power of divinity.
I understood that to this place of punishment
were damned those sinners in the carnal flesh,
who to desire their reason had abased.
And as the starlings on their wings are borne
in time of winter, in full broad flight
so did this blast bear the evil spirits.
Above, below, on this side and on that,
with never any hope to comfort them
either of rest or suffering less.
